The International Criminal Court (ICC) To Punish Pakistan? Rizwan And Company Will Face Criticism For Their Slow Overrate Against New Zealand

An important factor is that Pakistan may face penalties for not reaching the acceptable over rate in their Champions Trophy opener against New Zealand on Wednesday, February 19, in Karachi. Pakistan had a great start with the ball, but their fielding performance was hampered by many delays, which might result in an official penalty.

Pakistan is likely to face penalties from the ICC for their slow overrate

After winning the toss, the hosts decided to field, and Pakistan gained early gains as a result. Devon Conway was bowled by spinner Abrar Ahmed, while Kane Williamson was cheaply removed by Naseem Shah. But as the innings went on, their over rate started to decline, especially as a result of Haris Rauf’s repeated bad starts and the prolonged usage of pacers.

When Khushdil Shah and Abrar’s middle-overs resulted in more boundaries and additional time squandered, the fielding team’s inability to sustain the over rate got even worse. Pakistan was only permitted four fielders beyond the 30-yard circle instead of the customary five since they had slipped behind the necessary speed by the 48th over.

How Much of a Fine Is Possible?

According to the Champions Trophy playing criteria, which require a minimum over rate of 14.28 overs per hour, the penalty is appropriate. The team will likely be subject to individual sanctions, with each player’s match fee perhaps being lowered by 5% for each over they failed to meet the acceptable rate. The innings lasted more than four hours, much over the optimal duration.

It is crucial to note, though, that the precise amount of the penalty for Pakistan’s sluggish over rate will be decided when the number of overs in which they fell short of the acceptable pace is formally revealed.
