In February, Carlsen and Malone made their first public appearance together at the Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge in Germany. Since then, Malone has consistently attended his events, including as the World Rapid & Blitz Championships in December in New York and the Champions Chess Tour Finals in Oslo.
Carlsen talked on how much Malone meant to him in an interview at the Speed Chess Championship in September, saying, “It’s very nice to have her with me.” She is kind and compassionate; having some diversions is helpful in the event that I don’t do well.
