Who Is Tanveer Sangha? Australia’s Unknown Weapon Against India in the Champions Trophy Match

Tanveer Sangha was brought in by Australia as a surprise addition for their Champions Trophy semifinal matchup with India. They have chosen to take a chance on the young leggie because of the spin-friendly circumstances in Dubai.

Who Is Tanveer Sangha in IND vs AUS?

Leg-spin is ingrained in Tanveer Sangha, who was born on November 26, 2001. During the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, he became Australia’s leading wicket-taker, taking 15 wickets like a seasoned veteran. Soon after, he was playing for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL), getting batters to dance to his music.

His 2020 BBL debut was unforgettable. People started paying attention after he got two wickets for 26 runs against the Melbourne Stars. He ended as the season’s top wicket-taking spinner with 21 wickets at an economy of 8.04 by the end of the competition.

Originally from Punjab, India, Sangha’s father, Joga Singh, immigrated to Australia and worked as a Sydney cab driver. Upjeet Kaur, his mother, works as an accountant. They supported Sangha’s goal of playing cricket despite their lowly origins.

Sangha quickly rose up the ranks. At the age of 19, he was selected for Australia’s Twenty20 International team against New Zealand in 2021. Then, in August 2023, he made his debut against South Africa, smashing the opposition with 4/31, Australia’s finest T20I debut total in over 20 years.

Australia Requires a Spin Option

Australia has gambled on Sangha’s control and flight because of the gripping and twisting wickets in Dubai. He isn’t scared to give the ball some air and has a few different approaches in his sleeve. When the stakes are high, you need a bowler like that.

Although Sangha has already demonstrated that he is a member of this level, his greatest test to date will be the semi-final matchup with India. Can he remain composed in the face of players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma? In the semi-final of the IND vs. AUS Champions Trophy, will he weave a web around India’s renowned batting lineup? We’ll be hearing a lot more about Tanveer Sangha in the years to come, that much is certain.
