2025 Champions Trophy: Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana Join, While Jasprit Bumrah Is Disqualified

Due to a persistent back ailment, India’s speed sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been formally ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said late Tuesday.

Due to a persistent back ailment, India’s speed sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been formally ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said late Tuesday. The selectors declared that 23-year-old bowler Harshit Rana will take Bumrah’s position in the 15-man roster following weeks of conjecture over his health.

Despite being a member of the provisional roster, youthful opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was unexpectedly left out of the final squad. Varun Chakaravarthy, a mystery spinner who brings experience and recent form to the team, was selected in his place.

Bumrah’s Fitness Challenges Persist

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar suggested Bumrah to take five weeks off after he suffered a back ailment during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Regretfully, the 31-year-old fast bowler was unable to fully recover in time for the major tournament.

With four wickets in two games, Harshit Rana, who made his ODI debut in the most recent series against England, has showed potential.

With Chakaravarthy in, Jaiswal out

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s withdrawal from the team was another notable alteration. Even though he led India in runs scored in all forms in 2024, Jaiswal has only played one ODI and has primarily excelled in Test cricket.

In contrast, Varun Chakaravarthy won his spot with a strong showing against England in the T20I series. He won the “Player of the Series” title after taking 14 wickets in five games, and he was a serious candidate to make the final team.

Non-Traveling Alternatives

Three non-traveling replacements, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, have also been nominated by India. They will be on standby and may join the team in Dubai if necessary.

India’s Final Squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
