According to a study by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), India had the most doping cases worldwide in 2022. 125 of the 3,865 samples that were examined between January and December 2022 tested positive for prohibited drugs.
Even though nations like the U.S. and Russia conduct more testing, India is the only one to have more than 100 doping cases in a single year.
According to a different WADA survey, China came in third place and Russia first on the number of doping cases involving kids during the previous ten years, while India came in second.
Neeraj Chopra Issues a Caution to Sportsmen
Neeraj Chopra, an Olympic gold medallist, voiced his sorrow about the doping issue in Indian sports. “Doping has become a big issue,” Chopra stated in an interview with Lallantop. Although athletes believe it would help them play better, it really hurts their careers. The true paths to success include hard effort, a healthy diet, relaxation, and coaching.
Additionally, he asked coaches to assist young athletes modify their mentality and prohibit doping. “Our sports will improve if we resolve this issue,” Chopra continued.
Concerns Are Raised by the NADA Report
Between April 2022 and March 2023, 142 Indian athletes were found to have engaged in doping, according to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). Thirteen of the twenty-seven cricket players who were tested requested Therapeutic Use Exemptions for certain drugs.
